Great video as always! I too was thinking of bypassing the normal route to Machu Picchu. I hear there is a secret trail right up into the ruins.
But that climb you did looked nuts! May have to try that too.

I was rather disgusted by how touristy and expensive Machu Picchu really was. Tour operators charged as much as $500 for 3 day trip to the historic Inca site that has basically been rebuilt to withstand such high levels of tourism. I have always found that doing something yourself and finding your own way can be much more rewarding than joining a flock of tourists. So this video is about how I experienced Machu Picchu for about $34 and had a hell of an adventure doing it. Cheers!

There is a trail and you have to scale the wall and run up the forbidden terraces….BUT nearly impossible to do now. There is only one access point and it’s the bridge which they now have secured 24-7. If you can get past that you’re good to go but we couldn’t. But our climb was great.

I really really want to go to Macchu Picchu so bad! One day. Thanks for the video. It’s always better to find the itinerary on your own for sure.

Excellent tips Grant! I’ve been wanting to get to Machu Picchu for a while now. When I do, I will certainly take your advice. Could you tell us how long the 36km hike took you? Seems like a hell of a lot of walking for one day. Also, I loved the video but I would recommend you fine tune the audio levels next time around just because I found that the audio went from low to really high at certain points through out it. I kept having to higher/lower my volume the entire time. LOL! Anyways, other than that, keep up the great work!
